Construction insurance in France

The Spinetta law of 1978 requires all parties to the construction process to take up the appropriate insurance policy before construction begins.

Basically, there are two different categories of damages for your construction:

- Those jeopardizing stability of the construction,
 
- Those affecting one of the constituent or complementing elements integrated within the structure, which in turn makes the construction unfit for its intended use.
 
The scope of this liability also  contains the damage affecting the solidity of the complementing elements. Taken a certain number of conditions into account, the liability can incur during a 10-year period from the date of the final handover of the works.
 
You are required to insure your building against decennial responsibility using a "Dommage Ouvrage" or DO (insurance for individuals) as well as your decennial liability as a contractor (insurance for professionals that works in France).
